The mandate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to:Uganda Coat of Arms

  • Keep peace, law and order
  • Provide forensic and scientific analytical testing and services.
  • Ensure safe custody,humane treatment and rehabilitation of offenders.
  • Regulate and facilitate movement of people in and out of the country.
  • Implement the amnesty Act 2000
  • Implement the Community Service Programme as an alternative sentence under the criminal justice system
  • Coordinate and address the proliferation of illicit Small arms and light weapons
  • Registering and monitoring of Non Governmental Organisations.
Uganda Police Force

The Uganda Police Force (UPF) was established to enforce law and order, discipline and allegiance of people to government. The UPF became an institution in 1906 and has police stations and posts within the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) District which comprise of three regions namely Kampala North, Kampala East and Kampala South.

Its vision is to provide an enlightened and motivated police force that is efficient and accountable to the people. The mission of the UPF is to secure life and property in partnership with the public in a committed and professional manner in order to promote development.
